Evangelical Outpost asks a question concerning Instapundit:
Am I wrong in expecting him to address his critics?
Well, yes. But since it’s late, I’m going to pontificate. Blogs exist as a way for the author to get their point across, whatever that point may be. And just because Instapundit gets what? 10,000 times the traffic I do, doesn’t obligate him to address his critics any more than I am obligated. If he (or I) want to take on the critics, fine and dandy, but if not, why should he? If you want fair and balanced watch FoxNews.
If you want fair and balanced don’t rely on any one outlet for your news. Watch local and national, fox and some cnn, read the local papers and the nytimes and as many magazines as you can get your hands on, many blogs, and all kinds of online stuff. I enjoy watching and reading as much as I can and fairness is something I judge for myself.
Do blogs have a duty to answer critics though? I generally agree with you. I would counter by saying that if you can’t tackle the critics lurking in your comments, you’d better look for a better argument.
I know you are, but what am I? Kidding, just kidding. You are right about finding better arguments. I’m just saying I (or Instapundit) don’t have to if I don’t want to.
And I was just joking with the Fox News comment.
