What is wrong with Bush? Does he want to lose? Or is he planning that it won’t pass the House and it will be a moot point?
“It didn’t work and it isn’t necessary,” said Idaho Republican Sen. Larry Craig, who has led the floor fight against gun control.
Hey, my elected representative is representing me! What a refreshing change of pace.
It looks as though Bush is against the two amendments, but will probably sign them into law anyway as a compromise to get the immunity passed.
As a follow-up, the gun-control folks seem to have killed it this afternoon.
I know Bush isn’t stupid and he has good reasons for what he does. Sometimes, though, I wonder what he’s doing.
Agreed on that one — on principle, I feel like law-abiding citizens should be able to own whatever sort of firearm they want. In practice, however, I support our representatives when they “give a little to get a little.” It doesn’t work with essential freedoms, but I don’t squirm too much about this one.
Then again, if we ever had to defend ourselves from our government, I’m not sure 9mm handguns would do the trick. Something to ponder.
I agree. I’m not super upset about this bill either way. I was more concerned with Bush ticking off the NRA.
And yes, to take on the government you would need more than handguns and semi-auto rifles. That’s why there’s Ebay.
