That being said, isn’t the real question: “Why the hell is soccer so popular?”
Most people seem to think it’s because all you need is a ball and a few sticks to put in place for a goal to get a game going. Personally, I think it has to do with the fact that socialism helps turn people into zombies who enjoy dull, slow paced, effeminate games that may as well have been designed by the sort of knock-kneed milksops who think dodgeball is too competitive of a game for children to play.
Not So Fast 
When I was in Africa for two months, I was invited to a “match” by a friend in my parent’s church there. It was one of the most exciting things I’ve ever witnessed…far from boring. Soccer is global in it’s scope and popularity…the same cannot be said about American football. American football is full of pompous primadona’s with bloated salaries, and is chopped up into just enough parts so that advertisers can thrust their product into our faces…proffering beer and boobs every chance they get. If I have to watch a sport, I’ll take soccer any day over American football. Soccer effeminate? What planet are you writing this from? Last time I played football I quit because I was tired of other guys slapping my ass. Oh, and they don’t wear pads in soccer…soccer players are pretty hard core…
