   Don’t bet that the British are actively discouraging the US in the satellite arming debate. Since the earliest days of lend-lease the two countries have shared a common defense strategy which has often appeared turbulent on the surface but has been solid at its core. Throughout the 50’s the two countries conducted bi-lateral overflights over Eastern Europe and shared all the collected intelligence. At one time British submarines carried US nuclear weapons. Officers in the armed forces of the two countries routinely change places through a Personnel Exchange Program. Politics are one thing but mutual interest is another. It is no accident that the US and Great Britain are the two most prominent participants in the present Iraq situation.
