Traffic flaws

Speed limits and their flaws.

While he brings up some good points, what are the alternatives? Completely arbitrary tickets, it seems to me. At least now the cops have to come up with some reason for pulling you over.

  1. The lack of an arbitrary maximum would give the police one fewer reason to pull you over, actually, and the issue would be much more up for debate in a courtroom. As it stands right now, the cop is pretty much the investigator, prosecutor, judge, jury, and sentencer. Sure, that’s largely the fault of the people who plead guilty, but when it comes to a speeding ticket, do you REALLY think that there’s a presumption of innocence, or do you have to go to court to prove it?

  2. I don’t want to have to go to the courtroom every time a cop feels I was driving too fast. At least now I can choose to drive below the speed limit and therefore not get a ticket.

  3. You realize, of course, that they could STILL pull you over and give you a ticket for speeding even if you weren’t, right? Then you’d either have to pay it or fight it.

Odds are they’d be a lot more careful about when they gave tickets if they had to appear in court for every one they gave out.

  4. I see what you are saying now.

I just assume that everyone is always speeding. Except those people in the left lane that won’t pass and won’t let me by.

  5. I think it ought to be legal to shoot those people, personally.
