Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Incomplete, lacking, shallow. I don’t know, something felt wrong. It seemed sort of mish-mashed together. Like they took too much out. Which isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy it, it was a good time, I’ll buy the DVD, but it could have been better.
Zaphod and his accent drove me nuts, annoying every time he had a line. Marvin was great, but when Marvin is the best of the characters, something has gone horribly awry. The Trillian and Arthur love story: blech. The opening was good, but I really wanted the “far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy lies a small, unregarded yellow sun”. Eh, well. Enjoyable for fans; everyone else, skip it, says I.

Though I will say that most of the folks I know who didn’t know anything about HHGTG liked it quite a bit — didn’t know what they were missing.
Of course, what do you expect — so much of the book was in the verbiage of descriptions and narrations. But, yes. I agree. Could’ve been better. And longer. But it was a good time anyway.
But I may never get the “So long and thanks for all the fish” song out of my head.
I watched it last night and I rather enjoyed it.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it. It was me and one other guy laughing in the theater. Of course, there was only like 10 people in there, but still. I just think it needs a little more oomph.
I’m surprised the story tracks to those that aren’t familiar with it, but if it does, great.

None. I’ve seen my movie for the year.
Now I have to disagree on few points. Zaphod first off was made way more interesting to me and a highlight of the movie. While he seemed more stupid than cool and a lot more “off the wall” I think it worked for the most part. On the other hand Marvin drove me nuts. I loved the Marvin from the radio dramas but this one voiced by Rickman just didn’t cut it with me. It was the one case where I needed the original actor.
Oh well on a whole I’d give it 7 or 10 need to try again for RATEOTU and hopefully they can up the score some.
