Concerning the whole “I’m not leaving my pet behind when we are ordered to evacuate” thing:
You can’t take your pets with you if you are going to evacuate to a crowded area. There is the risk of them biting someone especially in a crowded, noisy, scary situation, they have to be fed and watered when there isn’t enough food and water for the people, and there’s a good chance someone near you is allergic to Fluffy. Sorry, it just makes sense not to allow them. If you would rather die than leave them, well, that’s your choice.
Not So Fast 
Amen. Heck, I’d eat my cat if I was starving to death. She’s pretty fat, anyway and I’m sure would make a half decent meal. Sorry kitty, let’s hope it never comes to that…
With the right sauce I’m sure she would be quite tasty.
