Do you ever wonder at the fact that we have the money, time, technology, and energy to support a vast entertainment network. Our society provides millions of people with time and money—should we choose—to sit around watching TV and movies. We have electricity, we have televisions, we have the money to pay an entire industry to make stuff for us to watch. It’s amazing. Or, I should lay off the cat’s pain killers.*
*not actually hooked on the cat’s pain killers
No, it’s not the painkillers!! We should all be appreciating western civilization. Having just flown from a developing country where electricity is intermittent, television is hideous, and refrigeration practically non-existent let me add some other oft-forgotten wonders…
1. Airplane food. Seriously! Our worst meals are better than the best meals that can be gotten somewhere else.
2. Plumbing. Let’s not forget the fact that we have toilets AND they flush.
3. Drainage. When it rains you don’t have to wade or drive through sewage water to get where you’re going.
4. General order. Ok, so Heathrow was a pain in the butt yesterday but there were still nice orderly lines and you know that you will eventually get where you’re going and not end up in prison because passort control missreads your visa.
