I tried

Having given these fluorescent bulbs that Walmart is pushing the old college try, I can say that a) they last a lot longer than incandescents and b) I can’t stand them. They have delayed startup, are a funny color and are generally not that great. I’d rather burn through incandescents. And I’ll go back to them as soon as these fluorescents burn out.

A compact fluorescent has clear advantages over the widely used incandescent light — it uses 75 percent less electricity, lasts 10 times longer, produces 450 pounds fewer greenhouse gases from power plants and saves consumers $30 over the life of each bulb. But it is eight times as expensive as a traditional bulb, gives off a harsher light and has a peculiar appearance.

Exactly.

  1. you REALLY want to wait 10 times as long?!? i tried those too in the fall… needless to say we converted back and are happy about it. so far the only people i know who like said bulb are my parents.

  2. Yeah, well, I am a bit on the lazy side. No point in putting in that effort if I don’t have to.

And yes, changing half a dozen bulbs is an effort.

  3. LEDs. That is the way to go. Why aren’t there LED bulbs for home use? If I can’t have a jetpack, I want a damn LED bulb in my apartment!

  4. Cause they’re tiny and don’t fit in standard sockets.

I want wireless e-paper and we don’t see that either do we? No. And I’m not living on the moon. The future is one big, fat disappointment after another.

  5. Stupid future.
