The USGS has a video about it here.
The Big Picture has pictures, oddly enough. #26’s caption is particularly amusing.
Nova’s Zombie Mountain Will Eat Your Brains is overwrought, but does have a very nice depiction of the first eruption.
It didn’t impact me at all since I lived in South Gate, at the time. But my grandparents got us little vials of authentic ash from it. And a coconut from Hawaii.
I had just turned one and was living in southern WA, all the schools in the area were closed and I had to wear a little baby face mask. I still have a jar of the ash. But no coconut.
At 7 years old, the coconut had a bigger impact on me than a bit of ash that I couldn’t play with, but they sat together on the same shelf so they are inextricably linked in my mind.
I have no idea where either of them are now. Probably lost in a move.
