It’s a steampunk summer. I shall don my brass goggles and endeavor to find a dirigible in which to enjoy the fine zephyrs.
His Dark Materials Trilogy – Philip Pullman
Oswald Bastable Trilogy – Michael Moorcock
The Difference Engine – William Gibson, Bruce Sterling
Steampunk – Ann Vandermeer (editor)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 2 – Alan Moore, Kevin Oneill
His Majesty’s Dragon – Naomi Novik (continuation of series dependent on how I like the first book)
Sheepfarmer’s Daughter – Elizabeth Moon
This Scepter’d Isle – Mercedes Lackey
The Aeneid – Virgil
The 3:16 Promise – Max Lucado
The Romance of Three Kingdoms – Luo Guanzhong
That’s a pretty good list…I may have to appropriate it for my own summer reading list. The only exception will be the Romance of the Three Kingdoms which I read a few years ago. It was pretty good (as was Red Cliff which I just watched the other night).
You are welcome to it.
I watched Red Cliff a couple weeks ago and realized I knew almost nothing about Chinese history, so I figure Three Kingdoms is a start to rectifying that situation.
I started with Romance of the Three Kingdoms video games way back on the NES which got me interested in the time period, but I didn’t do anything about that interest. Started playing the various Dynasty Warriors games set in the same time period and finally decided (as you did) that I didn’t know enough and wanted to correct that. All of that background made Red Cliff fun since I knew background behind even some of the support characters.
